This is one of the finest houses in Port Campbell. Its views of Two Mile and the Southern Ocean are just part of an unforgettable first impression. Enormous recycled timbers including pylons from the old Port Campbell pier, a spiralling handcrafted staircase and a ground floor tiled with a mosaic by an artist are just some of the features which will distract you from the ocean.
Owner Peter Kirkhouse has lived on the shipwreck coast around Port Campbell for 25 years. Surfing, the moody and powerful Southern Ocean, the colours of the sandstone cliffs and the spectacular 12 Apostles, and the culture of the local Aborigines has all influenced the bespoke design of Two Mile Bay House.
The two bedroom house, set within native bush and beside a dairy farm, is a work of art. But it is also a gallery and features works of local artists including the owner’s photography. The multi-tasking Kirkhouse – he built the house himself - is also a film maker and his DVDs of the coast featuring surfers and local musicians are available for sale along with the photography.
Peter will personally greet all guests and is happy to share his intimate knowledge of this extraordinary part of the Great Ocean Road.
