About the listing
The broad double sweep of Newfield Bay extends east from the mouth of the Curdies River some 1.7 km to where it terminates once again into the limestone cliffs that characterize the area. Offshore reefs mark the final resting place of the Schomberg and the Newfield. The mouth of the Curdies River is generally closed and is periodically artificially opened to manage the estuary. Take extra care walking across the bar in large seas and after heavy rain.
Caution: Offshore stacks provide some respite from the swell but a steep profile and nearshore currents make it unsuitable for swimming. Safer swimming options present 11km to the east in Port Campbell Bay (patrolled in summer)
Access: Is available from the Peterborough headland car park and from an unmarked car park to the east of the Peterborough Bridge
Fishing
Be on the lookout for seals herding salmon in the inshore gutters (a good sign that the salmon are running in good numbers)
Species Australian salmon, trevallly, gummy shark
