A TREAT, A TREASURE AND A TRAIL!

by PORT CAMPBELL VISITOR INFORMATION CENTRE

School Holidays are all about balance. With this in mind we have put together some ideas for you to fill up some fun family days from the Craters to Coast and everywhere in between. A treat, a treasure and a trail. Try a few or try them all, you can always come back for more.

Port Campbell

Enjoy a treat from the Port Campbell Lolly shop on Lord Street. Port Campbell Lolly Shop is a brand new business right in the heart of the coastal fishing village of Port Campbell. Owned by Daniel, a well-known entrepreneur of Port Campbell. The lolly shop is his latest endeavor. Daniel is an enthusiastic chap donning excellent customer service. You will be creating a sweet holiday a memory by visiting the Port Campbell Lolly Shop!

A treasure - Drop into the Port Campbell Visitor Information Centre and check out an impressive collection of artefacts from local wrecks, an anchor and an impressive scale model of the Loch Ard and even a cannon from the mighty Schomberg. Let our staff fire the kids imagination and set the scene for a visit to Loch Ard Gorge, just 8km east of Port Campbell.

A trail – Why not be one of the first families to cross the brand new Port Campbell Suspension Bridge, opened on the 30th June 2020. The Suspension Bridge recreates an historic bridge that used to cross the estuary of Campbell’s Creek and connects the township to the wonderful Port Campbell Discovery Walk. Can you count how many steps there are from bridge to the beginning of the walk? Can you find another set of steps that lead up to the Discovery Walk? Perhaps you can come down these to get back onto Port Campbell Beach. Still plenty of energy? Why not learn a bit about the Port Campbell Rocket Crew on your way down to the Port Campbell Jetty

Timboon

We get to double dip in Timboon where, not only can we treat ourselves to what seems to be a selection of never ending lollies, but we get to indulge in the rich and unusual flavours that the mighty fine Timboon Fine Ice Cream has to offer. Too cold for Ice Cream we hear you say? Not on our watch! Timboon Fine Ice Cream has thought of it all, even Hot Ice Cream! Don't believe us? See for yourself.

A Little Bit of Sweet is a great place for a treat in Timboon. Look out for the jumbo outdoor games on the village green in front of the shop. Spend some fun time challenging and testing each other enjoying games outside but beware, Michelle will be supervising to ensure that #parentswhocantlettheirkidswinboardgames are not spoiling the fun.

A treasure - This is a new adventure for Michelle, she has been in the shop for 18 months and prior that she had the Simpson Supermarket. Ask for local knowledge and directions to a lesser known emerald jewel just a short walk from a Little Bit of Sweet right past the Timboon swimming pool. The Power Creek Reserve will form the first part of the extension of the Camperdown – Timboon Rail Trail into Port Campbell. Power Creek Reserve offers a network of trails through tall eucalypt forest that you can walk or ride on. Keep your eyes out for one of Timboon’s resident koalas that often turn up in the oddest of places. For a close encounter with native wildlife (and even a dingo) you should really check out the Great Ocean Road Wildlife Park in Princetown

A trail – Take a walk or even hire a bike from Ride With Us for a trip down to the Timboon Trestle Bridge. There are bikes for everybody and even tag-alongs for young children and a special trailer that can accommodate the family dog. If you give the crew from Ride With Us enough notice you may even be able to hire bumper balls for a bit of family fun near the skate park.

Camperdown

Time for a sweet treat in Camperdown - Call in and see Jason at Giftz. If he isn't busy making you feel beautiful at his other venture Revamp Hair & Beauty, you'll find him at Giftz sharing a selection of sweet treats and gifts for all.

A treasure – Stroll down historic Manifold Street and check the time on the magnificent gothic clock tower that can be seen from most points of Camperdown and even from the summit of Mount Leura. Plenty of treasures for mum and dad with antique and second hand shops, you may even find a little treasure for the whole family but beware #parentswhocantlettheirkidswinatboardgames

A trail – Get ready to burn off some energy and tell the kids they are going to climb a volcano (or you could just drive to the top). Mount Leura and the Sugarloaf offer spectacular views over Victoria’s Volcanic Lakes and Plains. There are walks from the top and a direction marker that can tell you what the Lakes and Mounts you look over are called and how far away they are. Can you spot Mount Elephant, the Grampians, how far away are the Otways, in what direction is Mount Noorat? Can you see Mount Porndon reflected in Lake Purrumbete?

Just a short drive inland from the 12 Apostles and you will find yourself in a chocolate lovers delight at Gorge Chocolate, an established chocolate shop that welcomed its new owners Ian an Angela in late 2019. They have big plans for the year ahead and are currently in the process of expanding their cafe. Open until 5pm, save some time at the end of your day exploring the wonders of the Port Campbell National Park and enjoy a a steamy, creamy hot chocolate whilst admiring their herd of alpacas, you may even get to feed one!
