A Trail of Discovery!
Package up a low emission healthy holiday alternative for your family on the freshly opened Camperdown to Timboon section of the Coast to Crater Rail Trail.
Riders skirt the perimeter of volcanic Lake Bullen Merri (please see notes on a temporary closure and detour on the link above) and descend gently through open forest and grassland and finally through a golf course en route from Camperdown to Cobden.
From Cobden to Glenfyne and more particularly between Glenfyne and Timboon riders are presented with some more exciting downhill challenges as the trail passes through tall and tall wet forest. Look out for the skeletal remains of old trestle bridges bypassed by scenic bypasses, ideal spots for a photo opportunity, regroup and some welcome, well earned refreshment.
The rail trail is a significant wildlife coridoor offering good viewing of bird species along with significant arboreal (tree dwelling) residents including koalas and yellow bellied gliders.
The Camperdown to Timboon section of the Coast to Crater Trail is now open for mountain and hybrid bikes. Some technical downhill aspects and softer sections are still better suited to mountain bikes. Take the rail to the trail and piece together a package that suits your needs.
FREE Shuttle:
This free of charge shuttle will operate from 1st December 2011 to 26th April 2012 thanks to the support of the Timboon Action Group. It will depart from the Distillery car park on Thursdays at 5.15pm and every second Sunday at 11am.
