Sunrise is a must if you can. Trail gets a little technical and steep beyond the crater lookout and plenty of fun for the mountain goats amongst you. Potential for longer runs and multiple crater loops. For the purists a true summit would begin in the township where you will enjoy a nice incline on quiet streets as you wind past hillside cottages to the trail start on Morack Street. Enjoy!
Red Rock Lookout
Enjoy the views over Victoria’s largest permanent inland lake. Look over to the west and you will see scattered volcanic peaks of Kanawinka Geopark.
Lake Bullen Merri and Gnotuk lookout
A fantastic lookout. An interpretive sign describes the dynamics of the lakes and the reasons for their differing salinity.
Tower Hill Wildlife Reserve - Worn Gundidj
Volcano - Wildlife - Indigenous History. Nestled in the crater of a dormant volcano this reserve is a haven for wildlife a fascinating ecological site and a showcase for local indigenous culture. Located just off the Princes Hwy between Warrnambool and Port Fairy.
Dry Stone Walls
Western Victoria has up to 3,000km of the most dramatic and accomplished dry stone walls in Australia, historically and culturally significant, diverse in form and style. Many are visible along our roads and highways.
Camperdown Botanical Gardens
The Gardens feature three species of trees on the Significant tree registry - The African Holly, an avenue of nine Linden trees and two Himalayan Oaks. The impressive canopy also includes Elms, Cedars and Pines.
Camperdown to Timboon Rail Trail
The completed 34km Camperdown to Timboon trail is a wonderful family adventure, dotted with statuesque trestle bridges and spellbinding scenery.
Terang and Noorat Bike Trail
This is a great trail with views north towards Mount Noorat and south towards the rise of Terang and its distinctive crown of deciduous trees.
Terang Dry Lake Walk
An interesting trail that chronicles the science and history of the dry lake bed situated on the pretty lowland of the town’s southern edge.
Ballarat Skipton Rail Trail
Enjoy this wonderful 53km trail in parts or plan a wonderful weekend meandering through historic goldfields sites, traversing a majestic trestle bridge and taking in the wonderful rolling hills and pockets of forest between Ballarat and Skipton.
Colac Botanical Gardens
Colac Botanic Gardens are a fine example of a nineteenth century provincial botanic garden, typical of such gardens created in colonial Victoria.
Mount Rouse
Twenty minutes east of Hamilton, lies the town of Penshurst, home to the extinct volcano Mount Rouse, accessible by vehicle. To the south of the main scoria cone is a deep circular crater with a small lake and shallow crater rimmed with basalt.
Byaduk Caves
The Byaduk Caves in Mount Napier State Park are a very extensive and accessible set of lava caves. Being so young they are largely unweathered and still maintain their natural state.

Harman’s Valley Lookout
Travelling north, the Tumuli are a fascinating series of lava blisters and the only ones of their kind in southern Australia. At Harman’s lookout, closer to Byaduk, view a river of lava making its way toward you from Mount Napier, Victoria’s youngest volcano.
Lava Blister (Tumuli)
West of Byaduk Caves, near the limits of the Harman’s Valley flow are a number of unusual clusters known as Lava Tumuli or Blisters. Lava Tumuli are clusters of unusual circular mounds or hammocks of rocks, up to 10 meters high and 20 meters in diameter, caused by the lava flow.

Lake Bookaar offers good bird watching opportunity over spring and summer presided over by the bulk of nearby Mount Elephant.

Lake Tooliorook
Picturesque sand bottomed Lake Tooliorook is located 5km from Lismore. The lake offers good fishing and boating amenity and superb views across to Mount Elephant (near Derrinallum).
Lake Purrumbete
Lake Purrumbete is an attractive volcanic lake that fishes well for trout and chinook salmon. With an average depth of 45m and a maximum depth of 60m it offers good angling opportunities from bank and boat.
Cobden Lake
Cobden Lake is fed by Cobden Creek and has a paved walk and viewing platforms around it's circumference. Visitors can enjoy reflections from and enjoy the shade of the many mature trees and picnic tables in the surrounding parkland.
Lake Elingamite
The crater rim above the lake offers great views and a strong impression of the volcanic nature of the lake. There is a boat ramp and jetty which can be a little difficult to access in low water levels. Bank fishing is difficult in most conditions but is possible from a jetty near the boat ramp.
Deep Lake Recreation Reserve
Deep Lake is just 4.5km from the beautiful township of Derrinallum in South West Victoria and is located just off the Hamilton Highway. The Lake offers spectacular views of Mount Elephant and has toilets, boat launching facilities and a state of the art floating jetty.
Lake Corangamite
Lake Corangamite is the largest permanent salt-water lake in Australia, with a surveyed area of over 23,000 hectares.
Lake Colac
With a surface area of 2,778 hectares and a circumference of 33 kilometres, Lake Colac is the largest natural freshwater lake in Victoria.
Lake Bolac
The freshwater lake is 27 kilometres around the foreshore and covers 1,460 hectares. When full, Lake Bolac is 6-7 feet deep and is a popular boating, fishing and sailing area.
Paddling lakes, rivers, estuaries
For recreational paddlers, the volcanic lakes and estuaries generally provide more protected and predictable waters with plenty of opportunities to explore.
